The funniest thing would be if something WORSE came along and stole this person's thunder.
Funny thing, that. I've started actually timing these "ominous events" that seem to creep up one after the other.
It's always 2 weeks.
As soon as the crisis is diverted, two weeks go by, and the "Herald of Destruction" shows up....then 2 weeks go by, and someone in somebody's franchise suffers a tragic fate and dies....then the mourning team members make a quick 2 week recovery, just in time for some other ancient deity to crop up from the woodwork.
Now, I'm not one for predictions, but I'm guessing 2 weeks after the crisis with this Ashram guy is averted, some new threat to humanity will pop up...or someone will go "evil," or we'll see some new revolutionary jump in tech, or perhaps some ancient and powerful deity will come to claim dominion over the Earth.
How I long for "business as usual" that we used to have.
Some of the "Primeval threats to human life" are starting to take the edge off of some of our best stuff.
Don't get me wrong...I like a good rumble with the earth-shattering powers, but it's boiling down to a two week formula. It's getting tired. I'm almost willing to PAY to see a normal case file again.
Personal stuff...small-fry cases....funny stories....webcomics. I miss all that.
Is it just me, or does anyone here actually agree with me that the "Franchise-killers" are getting stale?
I miss stories like "Where in the World is Chelsea Aberdeen?" While other members of GBI were involved, the story was more on a personal level, and not a threat to all life on Earth....or perhaps 130 out of 140 of the Real Ghostbusters episodes; no godlike dark lords...just a short, great episode in the world of Ghostbusting....or my own "House Pests;" a simple haunted house in the suburbs where the wildest most public thing happening in the story is an Ecto-1 chase from an ectoplasmic Tyrannosaurus through the streets of suburbia...it wasn't quite "Ghostzilla," and didn't even make the evening news....we didn't end up crying over the loss of a fellow Ghostbuster, nor did we spend time in the hospital...nor did we save the world from ultimate destruction...we got Chinese take-out, and there's a gag at the end.
Perhaps it's just me...but it seems like we can't hold interest anymore unless we're in a state of alert or complete panic.
Case file lists are starting to look like:
Joe Franchise vs. the supermarket ghost: Joe franchise battles a nasty class 5 in the produce department of Save-a-Center.
Joe Franchise vs. the Lords of Doom: J.F. defeats the Thule cult of Nazi Germany.
Joe Franchise vs. The Cosmic terror: J.F. battles against a solar system destroying alien.
Joe Franchise vs. Legion: J.F. battles the fabled biblical "Legion" which has the strength of 50-hundred zillion Balrogs!
Joe Franchise vs. The Army of Darkness: J.F. must catch all the ghosts that escaped from every containment unit in GBI.
Joe Franchise vs. the Overlord of Evil: J.F. must stop Darth Cheney from raising his army of Satanic Republicans before they bring war and high gas prices to the whole Earth! Joe Ghostbuster gets killed when he's shot in the face by Darth Cheney!
Joe Franchise vs. the 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse: J.F. stops the end of the world from happening by catching and containing the 4 horsemen. Joe Blackie gets his soul stolen.
Joe Franchise vs. The spear of ultimate badassness: J.F fights against the Evil Illuminati after the spear of Destiny gets dredged up for the hundredth time and gives Jake Badguy unlimited godlike powers.
Joe franchise vs. the Army of Not-the-Light: J.F. must catch all the ghosts that escaped from every containment unit in GBI.
Joe Franchise vs. the Asshats of Apotheosis: J.F must do battle with a power so ancient that it predates....ummmm....everything. Joe Redskin dies in this one.
Joe Franchise vs. The army of opaqueness: J.F. must catch all the ghosts that escaped from every containment unit in GBI.
Joe Franchise vs. the Deluge of deja Vu: [Insert Gozer or Vigo or Walter peck, or any other reused Ghostbusters character here] has returned!!!!ZOMGWTFBBQLOLZORZ!!!111!!1ONE!11 It's up to J.F. to finally put an end to them for at least 5 episodes! Joe Yellowboy and Joe Whitey die in this epic, and leave only Joe Brownguy to run J.F....but who is this mysterious Joe Greenie?
