[glow=blue,2,300]My first fiction ever is open to the public! Yay! Ghost of a Chance Part One www.gbwc.net/fic/ghost1.html Check it out! This fiction details how I became a fixture at the GBWC... after a rather awkward start, that is. (Okay, so I'm a klutz. Got a problem with that?) Part Two is coming soon. Trust me, the plot is preparing to thicken... and at least one object is going to explode.[/glow]

Ooops for not mentioning it earlier, but... This was a great intro story. It's not easy to introduce a new character into a series, but this worked beautifully. Afterlife showed a great grasp of the characters already--I think she nailed Andy Harness especially well. On top of that, there are some mysteries lingering around that provide a springboard to the rest of this story and maybe even future ones. As I've said before, one of these days I have to get to Los Angeles to interview Miss Leavenworth. Some of what she's said in the time she's been here has been fascinating. The ghost we have available in New York is (no matter what you might have seen on TV) barely verbal and hardly knowledgeable about anything other than the itinerary of the neighborhood ice cream trucks and the phone number for West Pier Pizza.

[glow=blue,2,300]It would be a pleasure to meet you. I'm happy to answer any questions anybody might have.
(And incidentally, I have met Slimer once before. He was a keynote "speaker" at the Benign Poltergeist Rally in August 1989, right before the Ghostbusters went back into business. He talked for about 45 minutes and nobody understood a single word he said.)[/glow]

[glow=blue,2,300]Oy... look, anybody that's been around long as I have knows time is relative. "About a year" isn't much against the scope of history, man-- from my perspective, that is "right before". For somebody who's been around for over a century, a year is piffle.
Besides, a dead woman can't be expected to be up on contemporary history. ;D (I'll be a little more careful next time, if it'll make you guys happy.)[/glow]

[glow=blue,2,300]Well, the theme of the conference that year was "BPU-- Our Position Between Two Realms". Slimer was the only known ghost maintaining an amiable rapport between himself and the GB (such as the organization was at that time), so we thought it might be a good idea to ask his opinion on the GB's role in spiritual affairs. We quickly learned that we were mistaken...
The BPU has been a paranormal line of defense against malevolent spirits in America since the 1920's, and the Ghostbusters have always been of high interest to the group. Our primary role is actually self-government of the paranormal realm, since the convential political system seems unwilling to accept our presence and is incapable of coping with the legal and physical peculiarities of the supernatual realm. No political entity in the United States dares recognize us as an official governing body, but our services have aided the traditional system on certain occasions. For instance, we once had to settle a dispute concerning a former Greek demi-goddess who wished to open a resort hotel in Channel Islands...
We realized it would only be a matter of time until our presence was discovered after franchises began to appear. My simultaneous membership in the two organizations has finally broken the unwritten rule of no contact between the BPU and the mortal world. I expect the two organizations would have much to offer each other, but Mrs. Winchester, long-standing head of the group, is a bit set in her ways. It might take a while to bring her around.[/glow]

[glow=blue,2,300] I just picked up my old bag that I left at the Queen Mary last summer, and I found this stuffed into one of the pockets. It's a picture of me at my old haunt, the Columbia House Hotel (renamed City Hotel by the new management) as it was in 2002. A tourist wanted a picture of the hotel front, and accidentally got me in the shot. When he asked the management about it later, they vigorously denied knowing anything and refused to give his picture back. I thought you guys might want an image to put with the place. It was a nice little hotel-- too bad they tore it down. Maybe I should thank them. If they hadn't demolished it, I never would have found my way here. [/glow]

Fascinating...
I did visit Los Angeles in late August, and the meeting with Miss Leavenworth was indeed informative. Dr. Baugh is currently supposed to be working on the full case file ("Word To Your Mummy" is the working title. I'm told that's some sort of pun) and as soon as he returns from LA from his...vacation, it should be forthcoming.

[glow=blue,2,300]Thanks, Dr. Spengler. It was pretty informative on my side of the exchange too... for a frosh 'buster like me, getting to meet up with one of the legends of the business was quite a head trip. Say hi to the East Coasters for me... and tell Slimer, "She does too wear a girdle, you owe me five bucks." He'll know what that's supposed to mean.[/glow]
